The services at Lumbini Medical College Prabhas in Palpa have been affected by the protest of resident and intern doctors with four different demands. They boycotted services from 9 am to 5 pm on Tuesday. On Wednesday also, from 9 am, they demonstrated by tying black bands on their hands.
The service of the medical college has been affected as the doctors do not provide services in other work except emergency services. Lumbini Medical College has more than 124 resident and intern doctors. Dr. Resident doctor demonstrated with banners and placards in the medical college as part of the movement held by the Safe Workplace Struggle Committee for Health Workers. Deepak Kandel said.
Doctors have demanded that the recommendation issued jointly by the Minister of Health and Population and the Minister of Education, Science and Technology should be canceled immediately, and that the wages of all interns, MD, MS, MDS, MCH residents should be maintained as the government minimum. Similarly, it has been demanded to make the PG program completely fee-free and bond-free. They have demanded to make the duty time and vacation time in a scientific manner in
residency and they have demanded a maximum of 80 hours of duty in a week, a maximum of 2 24 hours of duty in a week, post duty off after every 24 hours of duty, provision of paid maternity leave, 21 days of ordinary and 7 days of study leave per year. They have demanded to issue a procedure with provisions including minimum one day a week mandatory holiday.
The Dr. Tank Barakoti task force, formed according to the agreement between the government and the struggle committee, has made public the report and has demanded to make an agenda and implement it. According to Lumbini Medical College, consultant doctors provided services. Company Secretary Krishna Parajuli said that the agitations carried out nationally also took place in Lumbini Medical College. "Not examining the patients in the OPD service has definitely had some impact," he said, "but services have been provided by consultant doctors so as not to disturb the service users as much as possible."
