Chitwan National Park has started the work of relocating 4 rhinoceros from the western sector of East Nawalparasi. On Saturday, a 15-year-old female giraffe was killed and taken to Chitwan from Gundrahi Dhakaha Madhyabarti forest located in Kawasoti municipality-15.
A professional team including the director general of the National Parks and Wildlife Department, Ramchandra Kandel, has transferred Gaida. Since there are about 200 rhinos in the western sector of the park, the rhinoceros have been transferred from the western sector to the eastern sector of the park to improve genetic diversity, said Avinas Thapa, information officer of Chitwan National Park.
2 male and 2 female adult rhinos are about to be transferred. According to the Chitwan National Wildlife Refuge, as the eastern part of the park is safer than the western part in terms of the density of rhinoceros and the risk of flooding, the relocation has been carried forward internally.
According to the plan to transfer 10 rhinos from the western sector of the park to the eastern sector, 6 rhinos were transferred from the western sector to the eastern sector in March 2080. Tourism businessmen of the district have protested against the transfer of Gaida from Nawalpur area. Santosh Rana, President of Hotel Business Association Nawalpur, said that it is sad that Nawalpur area, which is developing as a hub for tourists who come to see rhinoceros, is being transferred under various pretexts.
