The heat of the democratic movement of 2062/063, known as the Second People's Movement, was increasing all over the country. Political parties were protesting all over the country to boycott the local elections announced by King Gyanendra. At the same time, there was also a movement in Ghorahi.

Umeshchandra Thapa of Ghorahi also came out on the streets to protest the election on 26th of January 2062. At that time he was a member of UML National Council. Police and army were deployed all over the road to disperse the procession . Security personnel were chasing and protesters were protesting . At the same time, the army opened fire on the protestors. Thapa was killed by army firing. He is considered the first martyr of the movement of 2062/063.

The Martyr Gate has been constructed in Ghorahi in memory of Thapa . A gate has been constructed on one side of the road where Thapa was shot at in Ghorahi sub-metropolitan city-15. Thapa's salik thing has been erected over the gate . Every day, hundreds of people walk under the Shalik, which is at a height that is too high to be seen by the pilgrims. Most of the new generation and some old generation people are not aware of Thapa's contribution.

Once a year, a lamp is lit under the gate in memory of Thapa. Sometimes even celebrating Memorial Day seems to be forgotten . Shaheed Umeshchandra Thapa Memorial Foundation has also been formed. Thapa's wife Lakshmi is sad that her husband's dream has not been fulfilled. It is difficult for him to hold his heart even when he remembers the old incident . Forgotten wounds should be remembered once a year. There is nothing anyone can do,' she said disappointedly, 'I don't see anyone taking action to fulfill his dream.' Since then she has not been active in any political role. Sometimes she visits Kathmandu and sometimes Ghorahi. The martyr gate of Ghorahi and the place where the incident took place makes him cry . "What else can be done except crying?" She said, "Whoever wants it, wants it."

His heart is hurt by the mischief, political instability and irregularity being done by the leaders. He complains that the leaders who are supposed to fulfill the dream of martyrs are irresponsible.

Martyrs say while alive - the system has changed, the situation has not changed

Krishna Giri of Ghorahi-5 sit-ins, who took four bullets along with Thapa, survived by luck . He is known as a living martyr. His right leg was shot and broken in 6 places, his left leg still has 6 bullet fragments . Tried hard to get the shrapnel out but it was not possible . Now only the body is left. It is difficult to stay in pain. I have to take medicine all the time,' he said, 'I am living with bullet pellets in my body as a sign of the people's movement.' He said, "The army dragged me to the hospital as if I was dead," he said. My life has been saved by luck.'

Giri, who was involved in the movement without the flow of life, tried to suppress the hurt for a long time with the hope of forming a new constitution in the country and bringing people's rule. He was also excited like others when the system changed in the country, but it made him sad that the style of the leaders did not change. "The system has changed with the strength of our blood and sweat, but the situation has not changed". Some leaders have changed, our lives have not changed," he said. "The style of the leaders is getting worse. "Politics revolves around one insulting the other and how to solve it." Recalling that he had come to the streets for good governance and change, he expressed regret that corruption and irregularities are not under control in the country.

Giri is a Congress worker . Even after asking for various responsibilities in the party, he has not been able to get them. He complained that even when he asked for the ward president's ticket during the local level elections, he did not get it. On the contrary, after the presidential candidate lost the election, Giri was investigated for action. Even though I risked my life for the party and the country, I was not appreciated. "I don't get any responsibility than I do work," he said, "Now I have come to the thought of leaving everything and living independently." It seems that politics has reached it.'
