Siddharthnagar Municipality of Ruppandehi has decided to levy a fine of Rs 7,000 on those who abandon their four-legged friends. Since last week, the municipality has been conducting a management campaign to control the increase of stray cattle in the city.
Municipal spokesperson Muktinath Yadav said that 78 cattle have been managed as part of the campaign till Thursday. He said that among them, 2 people who came to claim the loose quadrupeds as theirs were fined Rs 7,000 and the cattle were handed over to them.
He informed that the cattle that were walking freely in the market were taken into custody and kept in a temporary holding center and from there they were taken to the cow shed in Wanagaga Municipality Ward No. 2 of Kapilvastu and managed.
Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan, the head of Siddharthnagar municipality, informed that since the loose chaupaya started obstructing the vehicles and passengers on the road and started eating the agricultural produce of the farmers, a campaign had to be launched to manage the loose chaupaya.
"Especially, the stray cattle have brought more problems to the city," he said, "Due to the risk of road accidents due to the stray cattle, besides increasing the risk of road accidents, their excrement is making the city smelly and farmers have been complaining that they are eating their agricultural produce."
