Prevention work has started on the washed out road located in Tinau rural municipality-5, Nidhekhola under Siddharth highway. Road Division Palpa has started work on the flooded road on 7th July by awarding a contract for construction of gabion mesh wall, drain construction, bio-engineering as well as sub-base work.
About 50 meters of the road was washed away in the snowdrift and the traffic was blocked. Information officer Durga Gautam said that the water has accumulated in the lower part of the road and the work is progressing by drilling it to remove the water from inside the road. "Based on the report of the experts assigned by the road department, we have awarded the contract for a sustainable solution," he said. After estimating the cost, the contract was awarded and the work started. After the road was washed away last July, consultant engineer Acharya suggested that water is flowing underground in the winter river and that water should be extracted by drilling.
After that, he insisted that other works should be done and the road should be built in the upper part. Only after that, consultant engineer Acharya suggested to carry out gabion mesh support wall, drain construction, bio-engineering as well as sub-base work. "This year, there will be other works on this road, but there will be no black paper," said information officer Gautam, "we have to see what will happen in a year." The construction company ID Construction Kaski has started the work after awarding the contract for 1 crore 77 lakh 28 thousand 956 rupees including VAT. Here, after the road was washed away last July, one-way vehicles are being operated by laying 'cabin mattresses'.
After about 60 meters of the road washed away affecting the highway, based on the suggestion of the geotechnical engineer, the vehicle was operated by filling the gabion mesh. 27 meters in length, 4 meters in width and remaining one and a half meters in width of the gabion net are filled in the flooded road. The depth of the net is 50 meters. Even though they tried to prevent the landslide by laying a tarpaulin at the flooded area, it flooded again.
The road is stable after laying 'gabin mattress'. Here there is water growing in the upper part and weak soil. The road division installed a retaining wall in the lower part last year. Despite attempts to prevent landslides by paving the slope, landslides did not stop. Efforts were made to control landslides by widening the road in the upper part in the financial year 2080/81. In this place, there is a problem of landslides from the upper part since years ago. There is a problem of flooding in such a lower area in an area of more than 60 meters. A limestone mine is in operation in the upper part of the Ice Dekhola.
Lately, there has been an additional problem due to the fact that vehicles with heavy loads are operating on the Siddharth Highway. More than 5,000 vehicles pass through this highway every day.
