Devotees have been arriving since Tuesday morning to attend the Maghe Sankranti fair, which is the confluence of Palpa, Gulmi and Syangja in Ruru area.

A religious fair is held for three days every year on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti in Ruru area, one of the Chardhams of Nepal. Stalls have been prepared for the fair in Palpa, Gulmi and Syangja. Bathing in Kaligandaki river and worshiping at Rishikeshava Temple in Tansen Municipality-14 Argali of Palpa is a tradition. 

According to Parshuram Bhattarai, president of the Rishikeshava Temple Management Committee, all the three districts have prepared to hold the fair in their own way. Bhattarai said that there will be religious programs in Palpa district like bhajankirtan, pujapath, bhandar, charity.

Apart from Palpa, Gulmi, Syangja, Arghakhanchi, Parbat, Baglung, Myagdi, Rukum, Rolpa, Pyuthan, Rupandehi, Nawalparasi, Kapilvastu, Dang and other districts come to bathe in Kaligandaki river at Ruru Ridi. After bathing in Kaligandaki, it is a tradition for devotees to worship at the Rishikesh temple on the Palpa side, said Shobhakhar Bhattarai, chairman of Tansen Municipality-14. According to him, there is also a program of feeding khichadi to the devotees who have come to the Maghe Sankranti fair. 

Gulmi has been informed that a 6-day comprehensive cultural program has been organized by the Association of Industry and Commerce and the Ruru Friends Club. Ruru has been organizing a fair every year to provide entertainment to the devotees who come to Riddi in Ruru  Friends Club said. The organizer said that the Ward President's Cup volleyball tournament was organized towards Syangja.

There is a legend that Sen dynasty king Manimukunda Sen in Ruru region found an actual idol of Rishikeshava while bathing in Kali Gandaki river and replaced it with the same idol. Therefore, the devotees who come here after bathing in Kaligandaki river visit Lord Rishikeshava and participate in charity work. 

People who go to the fair in Ruru area buy and sell home-produced goods. They have also brought blankets, dhaka, raadi, pakhi, aas coat, and sweaters made of sheep wool from Rukum East for sale. Local Churamani Timilsena said that the local Churamani Timilsena brought fruits, vegetables, materials made from choya, iron materials, walnuts, timur, nests and food items for sale.
