The Lumbini state government has declared a public holiday on January 2. The state government has been giving public holidays every year on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti and Magh festival.

Gangadhar Pandey, Senior Branch Officer of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law, said that this year also in view of Maghe Sankranti and Magh festival, it has been decided to give a public holiday on 2nd of January.

Lumbini State Government Council of Ministers meeting held on 20th of Chait 2080 decided to give public holiday on the occasion of Maghe Sankranti and Magh festival. 

After January 1st was scheduled in the national holiday calendar, the state government gave a holiday on January 2nd  yes The Tharu community celebrates Maghi festival for 3 days with various programs.
