The suffering is the same in the Butwal-Narayangadh road

The Butwal-Narayangadh road expansion work has not been able to accelerate due to the contractor not working as per the contract. Only 54 percent of the 114 km long road has been completed in 5 years and 5 months. As a result, passengers and locals traveling in this section have been suffering.

If the work was done according to the agreement, the work of extending the road section from Butwal to Narayangarh should have been completed two years ago. But due to extreme negligence of the contractor, it takes 6 hours to travel this road section which used to take three hours to reach.

Dev Bahadur Thapa of Rupandehi Khairhani complained that the journey is very difficult due to dust and potholes in the lower part of this section. You never know when an accident will occur due to dust and pits. Water will be poured only in the areas where there are settlements,' he said, 'the contractors and the government have not paid attention to the section where there is the most dust and accidents.' are Those who are doing business cannot live without masks. Vishnu Adhikari, who is operating an EV charging center in Kawasoti, says that seeing the condition of this road, passengers traveling from Kathmandu to Butwal use an alternative route.

"If the condition of the road is good, now it takes 5 to 5 hours to cross the Butwal-Narayangadh road section, which would be covered in 2 hours," he said, "No one wants to travel through this road as long as possible." They used to walk through alternative routes. Due to the dilapidated condition of this road, business has also been greatly affected.

Navraj Adhikari, president of Nawalparasi Association of Hoteliers, has the same complaint. After opening the shop, you can't sit because of the dust. Hoteliers in Bardghat and Sunwal areas, which are adjacent to the highway, have been hit," he said. "Due to the dust and mud on the highway, passengers and customers stopped and could not even eat breakfast."

Due to not filling the pits created during road construction and not keeping water on the road regularly, passengers are forced to travel dangerously in dust and potholes. To solve the problem, the work did not speed up even when the people's representatives of the association, state and local levels of East and West Nawalparasi met the Prime Minister and drew his attention.

The Chinese company China State Corporation should have started the work in March 2075 and completed the construction in July 2079. However, the deadline was extended for the first time till 11th July 2080 due to Corona, construction materials. The deadline was extended for the first time as the work did not pick up speed, and the deadline was extended for the second time till 8th July 2081. But after the work was not completed for the second time, the deadline was extended for the third time. The deadline for

has been extended until 8th July 2082. Praveen Thapa, sub-engineer of Butwal Narayangarh Road Project Eastern Section, said that after the deadline was extended and the warning letter was cut, the contractor accelerated the work. The road with a length of 114 km has been divided into two sections, the eastern section and the western section, and the work has been progressed.

So far, 65 km one-way and 22 km two-way roads have been blacked out. This project costing 17 billion is advanced with the loan support of Asian Development Bank ADB.
