Four pythons in one place

On Tuesday, two pythons were seen on the south side and two on the north side of the Telar Khola concrete bridge at Shrankapur on the Mahilwar-Padaria road in Lumbini. Locals were surprised to see four rare pythons in one place.

On the north side of the bridge, one python was hanging on a tree and the other was sitting on the weeds on the same side. The other two were sitting in a hole under the bridge to the south. All the four pythons were adults and about 3 meters long and weighed about 20/22 kg. It lays 20 to 80 eggs. If the eggs are not damaged by other small animals, most of them will hatch.

Wildlife photographer Raj Adhikari said that it hatches in about two to three months. Indian rock python and Burmese python python are found in Nepal. This is a Burmese python. The female python is bigger than the male python. Forests, grasslands, swamps and lakes are found alongside rivers. They are also considered to be excellent swimmers.

It plays a role in keeping the ecosystem healthy. It eats rats that damage crops. It also preys on mammals, birds and reptiles. Large pythons also feed on large animals such as deer or wild boar.

The Burmese python is one of the largest snake species in the world. It is found in Nepal up to 2500 meters high. Its lifespan is said to be 13/14 years. Snake experts say that it is non-poisonous. Nepal's Wildlife Protection Act has protected wildlife. It is on the sensitive list of IUCN.

There was a rush on Tuesday to see the snake hanging from the tree on the road near the southern gate of Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha, to take photos and videos. The python, which had been sitting in one place all day, hid after evening. 

Leelamani Sharma, a member of the Lumbini Tourism Council, said that there are plenty of pythons in the Lumbini forest and Lumbini is an attractive destination for bird and reptile lovers as well.
