Huge investment potential in Lumbini: Expert

Experts have said that there is a lot of potential for investment in Lumbini region. Experts participating in the conference on 'Nepal's commercial policy and investment opportunities in Lumbini province' held in Butwal on Thursday said that compared to other provinces, there are suitable possibilities and opportunities for investment in Lumbini.

They said that due to political instability and unstable economic policies, investment environment has not been created in the country, and they emphasized that the economic policy of the country should be formulated with the consensus of the political parties. Similarly, they say that institutional governance should be implemented as a mandatory condition for economic development and prosperity.

They pointed out that the state should focus on strict border regulation, proper use and export of natural resources, commercial production of agriculture, processing and marketing.

The seminar concluded that there is good potential for tourism, agriculture and information technology in Lumbini province, said Rameshwar Khanal, former finance secretary and chairman of the high-level economic reform suggestion commission. In the seminar, information technology, tourism, health, education and economic corridors were discussed on how Lumbini province can be promoted and income can be generated through it.

The former Vice Chairman of the National Planning Commission, Govindaraj Pokharel, said that the economic disequilibrium is still existing since the time of Prithvi Narayan Shah. He commented that because the political parties are advocating the socialism of the 20th century even in the 21st century, the model of development has become weak.

Prakash Kumar Shrestha, a member of the National Planning Commission, pointed out that the labor market is not as it should be, fluctuations in capital, production technology and management are weak, and he opined that industrial development can be done by combining agriculture and tourism in Lumbini. For that, he said, a strategy should be prepared to connect road network, export, attracting tourists, technical education with employment.

Dilliraj Aryal, Vice Chairman of Provincial Planning Commission, said that the preparation of the second periodic plan of the province is in the final stage. He said that the suggestions from the seminar will be taken as feedback. Speaking at the

program, Hari Prasad Aryal, president of Butwal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Rupandehi, said that a prosperous Nepal can be built only by connecting education with skills, skills with employment, employment with production, import substitution in production and export.
