Siddharthnagar Municipality of Rupandehi has started regulation of three-wheeled vehicles like auto, tempo and e-rickshaws. Janak Thapa, the chief administrative officer of the municipality, said that the campaign has been started since Wednesday to keep these vehicles, which are seen as the main challenge in the traffic management of the city, within the standards.
'According to the criteria, there is a provision to allow 500 autos and rickshaws to run in Siddharthnagar,' he said, 'It has been decided to stop the unregistered and haphazardly operating vehicles in the Bhairahawa area through the comprehensive discussion of all stakeholders.'
The municipality has published notices several times and registered 473 e-rickshaws. Now the regulation has started to allow only registered e-rickshaws to operate within the city. He said that the regulation campaign has been started in collaboration with District Traffic Police Office Rupandehi. "It will be regulated for one week and then those who violate it will be taken forward in the process of action," he said.
Siddharthnagar Municipality Chief (Mayor) Istiaq Ahmad Khan said that the regulation of e-rickshaws has been started with the aim of managing traffic by organizing parking in the city, beautifying the city, and implementing correct fares. In order to register in the municipality, blue-book, driver's license and insurance have been made mandatory with the concerned businessmen. Non-Nepali citizens and unregistered auto-tempo and e-rickshaws have been banned. According to the standards, apart from the main road, it should be operated on the edge service lanes and inner city roads, route permit should be obtained, passengers should only be hired on a fixed basis, parking should be done only in the designated place, and the sign registered in the municipality should be placed on the front of the vehicle.
