Orange production has increased in Pyuthan this year. Compared to last year, the production of oranges in the district has increased. Compared to the previous year, the production of oranges in the district has increased this year, according to the Integrated Agriculture and Livestock Development Office Pyuthan.
According to the office, 2,335 metric tons of oranges were produced in Pyuthan last year. Umeshchandra Shrestha, acting head of the office, said that 2,467 metric tons of oranges were produced this year. 132 metric tons more oranges have grown this year than last year.
The area where oranges are produced has also increased compared to last year. Shrestha, the head of the office, said that last year, oranges were cultivated in an area of 290 hectares, and this year, oranges are being cultivated commercially in an area of 235 hectares.
Similarly, seasonal production of amila fruits has also increased. Last year, 1,275 metric tons of rice was produced in an area of 138 hectares, but this year, 1,365 metric tons of rice was produced in an area of 140 hectares.
Shrestha said that the production of orange and sour fruits has increased in the district as farmers have started cultivating fruits professionally. "All three levels of government distribute fruit plants free of charge," he said, "in the next few years, this number will double in Pyuthan." Farmers have also recently planted new plants. He said it will take some time to produce.
In Pyuthan, oranges are grown in Chudhara and Tushara areas of Pyuthan Municipality-10 Chhapane, Jhimruk Rural Municipality. Apart from this, there is commercial cultivation of fruits of other Amila varieties in some other places.
