Critic and professor Prem Shanti Tuladhar has been awarded the Matrabhasha National Service Award-2082.
At a ceremony organized by the Adivasi Janajati Utthan National Foundation in Lalitpur on Tuesday, the Chairman of the Adivasi Janajati Commission, Ram Bahadur Thapa, handed over the award with a cash prize of Rs 100,000 to Professor Tuladhar.
Chairman Thapa said that honoring personalities who contribute to the mother tongue will honor the language. 'So far, many dignified people have received this award, this is a good thing. We should all be active in maintaining the linguistic diversity of the country by honoring those who love the mother tongue,' he said.
Chairman Thapa urged all ethnic organizations to organize a situation where the honor and award programs for the mother tongue should be conducted in the mother tongue itself.
Chairman of the Adivasi Janajati Federation, Nima Lama, opined that such an honor would be important for the preservation and promotion of the mother tongue. He emphasized that the state should work result-oriented to work by respecting linguistic and ethnic diversity and paying attention to its originality and existence.
Former Vice President of the Foundation and Coordinator of the Award Selection Committee Jitpal Kirat said that the decision to award the award was made in appreciation of the prestige and contribution established by Tuladhar. He stated that according to a UNESCO study, out of the 124 languages spoken in Nepal, 60 are on the endangered list and opined that those who contribute to keeping the language, culture and civilization alive should be honored.
Awarded Personality Professor Tuladhar said that this honor has honored not only herself but also Nepali language and all mother tongues. She said that the award has increased additional responsibility and accountability in the protection and promotion of the mother tongue.
Awarded Personality Professor Tuladhar is a renowned scholar and retired professor of Nepali language, literature, criticism and cultural studies. Born in Bhotahiti, Kathmandu in 2008 BS, she currently resides in Kapurdhara. Her first work, 'Jivan va Sangarsh', was published in the 'Situ' magazine in Nepal Sambat 1088.
Tuladhar, who holds a master's degree in economics from Tribhuvan University, taught at Padmakanya Campus for 35 years and at the Central Department of Nepal Language for five years, it was informed on the occasion. She played an important role in expanding Nepali language literary activities by forming 'Paleshan Pucha'.
Professor Tuladhar's 'Nepalbhasha Sahitya Itihas' is considered the first book on the history of Nepali language literature, which is currently studied as a textbook at the university level. She has written more than a dozen books and edited many books.
She has received various awards including Shrestha Sirpa, Baikuntha Lakaul Sirpa, Giridhar Lal Nepalbhasha Sirpa for her contribution to Nepali language literature and education.
Ram Kumar Maden, Acting Office Chief of the Foundation, informed that it is being presented every year on February 9 on the occasion of Mother Language Day.
