The book 'Vichitrako Democracy: Gajabko Nachhar' written by former Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Thapaliya has been released.
This work, which presents the inner structure of a mature democracy, the interrelationship between technology, money, and public opinion from an introspective and analytical perspective, attempts to understand democracy in a broader context, taking it beyond the boundaries of just the ballot box and results. Written based on direct observation of the 2024 US presidential election, this book covers the overall perspective of history, ideas, institutional structure, political culture, and civic consciousness.
This book is not just an observational report; it is an in-depth discussion on the American electoral system, the electoral college, two-party dominance, election spending, use of technology, voter psychology, swing state politics, and the challenges of the digital age. In addition, both the strengths and contradictions of democracy are exposed by comparing it with the practices of India, Thailand, Bhutan, Europe, Australia, and African countries.
Author Thapaliya has demonstrated high-level managerial skills in public administration by successfully conducting elections to the House of Representatives, Provincial Assemblies and local levels as per the federal structure during his tenure. Thapaliya, known as a meticulous analyst of the administrative system, an experienced practitioner of democracy and a thinker of social change, is also a powerful creator of Nepali language and literature. This is his sixth publication.
The book has been published by Shangri-La Books.
