Poet/essayist/short story writer Resham Birhi's new novel 'Parshwadhwani' was released on Tuesday.
Birahi's novel was jointly launched at the poet-turned-author 'Footpath Academy' in New Road, Kathmandu.
The novel was launched at the program by writers Rajab Pudasaini, Bimal Nibha, Shyamal, Avinash Shrestha, Deepak Sapkota, Shardul Bhattarai, Matrika Pokharel, Sitaram Upreti and the writer himself.
Storyteller Rajab said that Resham Birahi is a writer who has lived a long life in Nepali geography, society, politics and literature. 'His writing shows abundant contextual use and weight of experience in all those fields,' said Rajab.
Poet Shyamal said that Resham Birahi is a powerful name in contemporary writing. ‘Virahi, who has been worshipping writing for a long time, is a devotee of literature,’ said Shyamal, ‘As a poet, essayist and short story writer, Resham has a subtle insight into life and the world.’
Essayist Deepak Sapkota said that Resham Virahi has created his own personal language in writing. ‘Be it essays, short stories or poems – Virahi stands apart in the ranks of writers currently writing,’ said Sapkota, ‘His imagery, symbols, myths and regionalism have given a new color to Nepali literature, giving Resham a different identity. ‘Parshwadhwani’ is a subtle description of the Mahanadi Narayani and the Birahi blues of the lives of the people living around it. This book is a triveni-story of society, politics and history.’
‘Parshwadhwani’ is Virahi’s 14th book. His novel ‘Premdas’s Diary’ was published earlier. In ‘Background Sound’, the shadow of Chitwan in the distant past, its social environment and the discontented communist politics are presented in an artistic manner. The story describes the subtle description of Narayani and the life and struggle of the people around her.
The author Birahi said that the novel is written on the lines of love and politics. ‘Background Sound’ focuses on the left-wing politics of Chitwan. The price of ‘Background Sound’, published by Shikha Books, is Rs. 795.
