Dishes with many flavors made from duck are rarely found in Nepalese restaurants. But recently, the demand for duck dishes is increasing.

China is the country that eats the most duck meat dishes in the world. There is an age-old history of hundreds of duck dishes. In countries like China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Germany, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, etc., duck meat has become a part of daily food .

There are 120 to 130 species of ducks called waterfowl around the world. But Peking duck is famous for its meat. Due to its mild taste, soft texture and high growth rate, this type of duck is more popular commercially. The Chinese are very good at making duck dishes. They prefer duck dishes more than chicken.

Why duck consumption is low in Nepal?
The consumption of duck and its dishes is not big in Nepal. Because there is no commercial breeding of ducks. There are no duck dishes on the hotel restaurant's regular menu .

As the demand for sufficient and quality ducks in the local market is not met, many hotel restaurants are buying duck meat from Thailand at high prices. Because duck meat is not available enough and regularly in the local market, many hotel restaurants have not been able to include duck dishes in the menu despite the demand.

In terms of health, duck meat is considered better than chicken meat. Duck meat contains enough protein, iron, vitamin B12, selenium and omega-3 fatty acids.

In Nepal, some people do not eat duck meat because it smells like mud. But there are also ways to remove the smell of mud. Muddy smell is from blood and internal organs . For that, first of all clean the duck thoroughly and separate the inner part and soak it in salt water overnight and keep it in the refrigerator and wash it twice/three times in the morning with clean cold water and let it dry in front of the air or fan . And it should be cut according to the dish to be made. Some people keep duck meat in milk overnight and take it out and cook it the next day.

What dish is made from duck?
Choila and Sekua are considered to be very famous duck dishes in Nepal. Choila is famous in the Newari community of Kathmandu and Sekua is mainly in the Tharu community of Chitwan. But duck meat is not limited to this dish. Many dishes can be prepared from duck meat. Don't you want to eat a delicious dish of duck?
