A prisoner at the Khotang Prison Office has died. Nissan Rai, 24, of Sakela Rural Municipality-4, Mattim, who was serving a prison sentence for vehicular homicide, died last night.
He was found unconscious at around 12:55 am on Wednesday and was declared dead by the doctors at 1:57 am upon being taken to the district hospital, said prison information officer Kapindra Kathayat. "He was sleeping because he wanted to call me to watch football at night. When I called him after the football started, I found him unconscious and when I was taken to the hospital, I found him dead," Kathayat said.
Rai was sent to prison on 24th Shrawan 2081 by the decision of the District Court Khotang on 16th Falgun 2077 and the temporary bench of the High Court Biratnagar on 7th Chaitra 2078. He had sentenced him to two years in prison and a fine of 20 thousand.
