A prisoner at the Khotang Prison Office has died. Nissan Rai, 24, of Sakela Rural Municipality-4, Mattim, who was serving a prison sentence for vehicular homicide, died on Tuesday night.
He was found unconscious at around 12:55 am on Wednesday and was declared dead at 1:57 am upon being taken to the district hospital, said prison information officer Kapindra Kathayat.
"He was sleeping thinking that he should call me to watch football at night. When he called me after the football started, I was found unconscious and when I was taken to the hospital, I was already dead," Kathayat said.
Rai was sent to prison on 24 Shrawan 2081 by the decision of the District Court Khotang on 16 Falgun 2077 and the temporary bench of the High Court Biratnagar on 7 Chaitra 2078. He had sentenced him to two years in prison and a fine of 20,000.
