Two employees of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) have died and one has been injured in an accident in Itahari, Sunsari.

While going to repair a problem seen on the Duhabi-Dharan 33 KV transmission line on Monday night, the NEA's Scorpio (Ba 1 J 1651) lost control and crashed about 200 meters south of the Seuti bridge in Itahari Sub-metropolitan City-20 (towards Tarhara), according to the police.

The drivers, Birkha Bahadur Rai, aged 33, of Dharan Sub-metropolitan City-13, and Suman Acharya, aged 49, of Dharan-16, died in the accident, according to the Area Police Office, Itahari. Rai was a contract driver while Acharya was a permanent helper employee of the NEA.

According to Hariram Pokharel, Chief of Nepal Electricity Authority's Dharan Distribution Center, after a problem was noticed on the transmission line at night, a team of employees went to the incident site in a Scorpio for patrolling and repair. The accident occurred in that sequence.

Rai and Acharya, who were seriously injured, were rushed to the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan for immediate treatment, but were declared dead by doctors at around 12:45 am, police said.

Padam Rai, 32, of Dharan-20, was injured in the accident. The NEA said his condition, a salaried employee, is normal and he is being treated at the institute.

The Scorpio was completely damaged in the accident. Police said that during the initial investigation, it was found that the vehicle itself was out of control. It is initially believed that the accident may have occurred due to high speed while rushing to repair the electrical system.
