Bhediyari in Biratnagar Metropolitan City–18 was tense on Friday after the body of a teenager, who had been chased by police on suspicion of marijuana smuggling, was found in a pond. Police had used batons after the deceased's relatives and locals obstructed the removal of the body.

The body of 17-year-old Manjit Kumar Yadav of Bhediyari was found in a local pond on Friday morning. When police tried to take the body to Koshi Hospital for post-mortem after completing legal procedures, relatives and locals blocked the road and staged a protest.

The protesters demanded an investigation and action against the police team that chased the teenager, as well as appropriate compensation for the victim's family. Tension arose for some time after they insisted that the body would not be removed until their demands were addressed.

According to Morang Police, minimal force was used to disperse the crowd and send the body to the hospital. After the baton charge, the protesters scattered. Police stated that the situation is now normal. According to Morang Police, Yadav's body was found floating in the middle of the pond at around 10:30 am on Friday.

Police claim that on Wednesday, Yadav fled on foot, abandoning his motorcycle, when they tried to check a motorcycle with an Indian number plate on suspicion of carrying marijuana. While fleeing, he jumped into the pond. From the scene, 41-year-old Shivdhar Yadav of India, who was riding pillion on the motorcycle, was arrested with 6 kilograms and 130 grams of marijuana.

However, the deceased's relatives and locals have accused the police of causing the teenager's death by chasing him. They have protested, demanding an impartial investigation into the incident and action against the involved police officers. Police stated that further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
