The Rajduwali section of the Ilam stretch of the Mechi Highway has sunk again. This section of the road has been repeatedly blocked for the past three years due to the problem of sinking, and it sank again on Thursday morning.
No vehicles have been operating on the road since Thursday morning after it was damaged. Although the Ilam Road Division Office has been repairing the sunken section, Division Chief Pawan Bhattarai said that the problem persists because the rain has not stopped.
Given the condition of the road, it does not appear possible to repair it immediately and operate it on a long-term basis, so the Road Division and local administration have been urging the use of alternative roads.
As alternatives, the Tilkeni-Simalgolai and Belase sections have also been proposed, but landslides and water accumulation during rainfall have made travel difficult there as well.
