A 55-meter-long modular bridge has been constructed at Maikhola (Belase) in Deumai Municipality of Ilam, which has been used as an alternative to the Mechi Highway.
The modular bridge installed here by the Road Division Ilam has been operational since Monday. The bridge has a load-bearing capacity of 30 tons, informed Pawan Bhattarai, Chief Engineer of the Road Division Ilam. According to him, the concrete bridge here was damaged by a flood last Asoj.
This road was being used as an alternative after the problem of road collapse and landslides started recurring in the Maikhola Rajduwali area under the Ilam Jhapa section of the Mechi Highway. Due to the lack of a bridge here, vehicles and transport vehicles were stuck in traffic jams when floods hit.
The modular bridge has been installed over the remaining concrete bridge damaged by the flood. The Road Division Ilam has spent Rs 11 million to build the necessary infrastructure for the modular bridge. The bridge was provided by the Government of India.
