A birthing center has been brought into operation at the Lungarupa Health Post in Jalpa, Lungarupa, Phidim Municipality-13.

A birthing center has been brought into operation in Lungarupa, a remote area of Phidim Municipality. It is expected that pregnant women in this area will no longer have to go to the district headquarters Phidim for normal deliveries.
Mayor Mitra Prasad Kafle and Deputy Mayor Radhakrishna Neupane inaugurated the birthing center on Sunday at the health post located at the junction of Phidim-13 and 14.

Lungarupa is geographically one of the remote settlements in the municipality. Pregnant women had been suffering for years as it took hours to reach Phidim Hospital from here to deliver. Locals have experienced that the lack of easy access to transportation and the lack of timely treatment in emergencies increase the risk.

The demand for operating a birthing center in Lungarupa increased after a woman from the same area died due to not receiving timely maternity services in Mangsir last year. Since then, the municipality has started maternity services by arranging the necessary infrastructure and manpower at the health post.

After the inauguration, Mayor Kafle said that the birthing center has been brought into operation in line with the policy of not allowing citizens of remote settlements to be deprived of basic health services. According to the municipality, the birthing center will provide general childbirth, regular pregnancy tests, postpartum care and early care of newborns. Arrangements have been made to refer patients if a complex condition is found.

Dilkumar Nemwang, Ward Chairman of Phidim 13, said that the demand for years has been addressed with the operation of the birthing center. According to him, this will reduce the risk of having to go to the hospital to deliver, especially during the rainy season and at night.
From here, 2 nursing staff and one senior AHEB have been confirmed to provide maternity services. The municipality has stated that all the necessary equipment has been provided at the birthing center.
