For the first time, a laparoscopic (telescopic) surgery for a large gallstone has been successfully performed at the District Hospital, Sankhuwasabha.

A team of specialist doctors from the hospital removed a 4-centimeter-long stone from the gallbladder of 53-year-old Buddhamaya Rai of Khandbari Municipality-3.

According to the hospital, this surgery, which was performed on Friday, was the second case performed at the district hospital using the telescopic method, but it was very complicated due to the size of the stone.

Surgeon Dr. Santosh Devka, who was involved in the surgery, said that the patient had a 4-centimeter-long stone in his gallbladder and that it was safely removed.

The hospital's surgeons, Dr. Santosh Dev and Dr. Rajya Prakash Rai (M.S.) and Dr. Priyanka Dahal (M.D.) participated in the surgery.

Compared to open surgery, laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgery causes less pain to the patient, leaves smaller scars, and allows the patient to recover and return home quickly, Dr. Dev said.

Earlier, for such complex surgeries, it was necessary to go to well-equipped hospitals outside the district. With this state-of-the-art service now available at the district hospital, the people of Sankhuwasabha have received great relief.
