Floods and landslides caused by incessant rains have displaced 28 houses in Tenchhong settlement in Silichong Rural Municipality-1 of Sankhuwasabha. A community health post has also been put at risk due to the landslide. The affected families have been shifted to a safer place in coordination with the local level, army, police and people's representatives.

Residents of Lower and Upper Tenchhong have been forced to leave their homes after the ground above the settlement cracked and started to collapse due to the continuous rains since Sunday night. As the risk still persists, locals are taking temporary shelter in the homes of relatives and neighbors.

According to Police Inspector Dhan Bahadur Rajbanshi of the District Police Office, Sankhuwasabha, 20 families from Lower Tenchhong and eight others from Silichong-1 have been directly affected.

According to him, the houses of Mankumar Rai, Naubahadur Rai, Manabahadur Rai, Dhanram Rai, Tilak Prasad Rai, Naresh Kulung, Yogendra Rai, Vijay Rai, Manidhan Rai, Santosh Rai, Nandu Rai, Dhanabahadur Rai, Kalpana Rai, Ashram Rai, Prabisuk Rai, Agraj Rai, Purnaman Rai, Fagendra Rai, Baburam Rai and Bindur Rai of Lower Tenchhong have been displaced due to the landslide. Similarly, the families of Kunti Rai, Dhanpurna Rai, Mangal Bahadur Rai, Suk Prasad Rai, Mira Rai and Dhanman Rai of Silichong-1 have also been affected.

The landslide has also put the community health post in Tenchhong at high risk. Immediately after receiving information about the incident, a 10-member team led by Deputy Inspector of Police Anil Bhujel from the District Police Office reached the spot. The team is monitoring the affected areas, rescuing locals and collecting details of further damage, the police said.

Village Municipality Chairman Bhupal Raj Mewahang said that necessary support has been sought from the Koshi State Government and the federal government to run relief, temporary housing, food and rehabilitation programs for the affected families. He mentioned that a long-term plan is needed to reduce the risk of landslides.

Meanwhile, more than 600 households in the village have been deprived of electricity service after the flood damaged two micro-hydropower projects in Silichong - Sisuwa Khola (60 kW) and Chatekma (30 kW). The disruption of electricity has affected the daily lives of the locals, while problems have also been seen in the operation of drinking water, communication and other services.

Similarly, teaching and learning have been suspended after the flood in Sisuwa Khola damaged two schools.

As the weather is still not completely clear and there is a possibility of more rain, the local administration has urged the general public not to go to areas with high risk of landslides and floods.
