The Diktel-Regmitar road has come into operation. The shortest distance road connecting the district headquarters Diktel to the eastern Terai has come into operation since Saturday.

Binam Dahal, head of the Infrastructure Development Office, Khotang, said that the road was opened after the Mahabhir on the road section was built.

Kamala Construction and Suppliers Udayapur had signed an agreement with the Infrastructure Development Office, Khotang, on Magh 11, 2082, to complete the road construction work by breaking the cliff at a cost of Rs 17.78 million from the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development of Koshi Province by Jestha 11, 2083.

The Infrastructure Development Office has stated that the work done with the budget was to break the cliff and build the road, build irrigation canals that were damaged when the cliff was dropped, slope the causeway, install gabion mesh, etc.

After the construction of this road, the obligation to travel via Mahure-Buipa-Rajapani to reach Regmitar has been eliminated. After the construction of this road, the road has been shortened by about 15 kilometers, said Binam Dahal, Head of the Infrastructure Development Office. Khagendra Rai, Ward Chairman of Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality-4, Khalle, said that the excavator operators Prakash Lama and Prakash Pakhrin, who took the risk of breaking through the mountain to build the road, were honored with 10,000 rupees each.

Former Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development of Koshi Province Bhupendra Rai inaugurated the road. However, after the flood last year washed away the bridge at Phoksingtar, direct transport links with the Terai have been severed during the rainy season. Direct transport is only possible after installing a belay bridge in the winter at that place.
