The government-announced Mount Everest Tree Plantation Campaign and National Tree Plantation Day have been officially launched from Khandbari, the district headquarters of Sankhuwasabha, on Sunday. In a special program organized at the premises of the Manakamana Community Forest Users Group in Khandbari, Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Forest and Environment of the Koshi Province Government, Dr. Indra Prasad Sapkota, launched the campaign by planting saplings.

Secretary Sapkota said that tree planting is not a one-day formal program but a long-term campaign to create a safe environment for future generations. He mentioned that the saplings planted today will grow in the future and make a significant contribution to clean air, greenery, conservation of biodiversity and mitigation of the effects of climate change.

‘All parties should pay equal attention to the protection and regular care of the planted saplings,’ he said. The government has promoted the Mount Everest Tree Plantation Campaign as a national campaign to be conducted throughout the year. He said that under this campaign, the goal is to plant trees extensively in forest areas, public places, riverine areas, school premises and vacant land across the country. It is reported that the campaign has started simultaneously in all districts of Koshi Province from Sunday.
