Morang Police have arrested Abhishek Giri, a controversial figure from Biratnagar. A team from the District Police Office, Morang took Giri under control from his house in Madhumara, Biratnagar Metropolitan City-4, on Saturday morning.
According to the police, Giri was arrested on charges of misusing allowances and other funds provided to prisoners of Morang Prison. Although his house was raided on suspicion of hiding illegal weapons, the main reason for the arrest was the allegation of embezzlement of funds related to prisoners, according to the police.
Chief Superintendent of Police (SP) of the District Police Office, Morang, Kabit Katwal informed that the arrest was based on a complaint that Giri had taken the money received by the prisoners of the prison and an investigation was underway. “It is alleged that he took the money received by the prisoners of the prison. Further investigation is underway in this matter,” said SP Katwal.
Giri was in charge of the watchman while serving his sentence in the case of body hostage and kidnapping. Despite being released after completing his sentence, he was accused of being active in the prison's internal activities.
He has a controversial image but has been active in Nepali Congress politics for the past two years.
Giri, on the other hand, has claimed that attempts were made to defame him.
