The district sports development committees under the Koshi Province Sports Development Board have received leadership after a long time.
With the appointment of chairpersons in 12 districts by the board's member secretary Biplav Ghosh on Thursday, the committees that had been without leadership since last Chaitra have been completed. The district sports development committees had been without leadership for a long time due to the delay in the appointment of member secretaries.
The appointment process has been moved forward after the ruling coalition parties Nepali Congress and Nepal Communist Party (UML) in the province agreed on the division of 6 districts each. As per the board's decision, it has been agreed not to change the leadership immediately in Morang and Khotang due to disputes and legal complications.
The current chairman of Morang, Indra Lama, will remain as he was reinstated by the High Court order. It has also been decided not to remove Khotang chairman Ramesh Rai immediately.
As per the agreement between the two parties, UML has been given leadership in Dhankuta, Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Ilam and Jhapa. Manoj Kumar Rai has been appointed in Dhankuta, Chandra Kumar Thebe in Taplejung, Laxman Lingtheb in Sankhuwasabha, Arjun Rokka in Solukhumbu, Yetiraj Kafle in Ilam and Shekhar Kandel in Jhapa. The Congress has been given Sunsari, Okhaldhunga, Udayapur, Tehrathum, Panchthar and Bhojpur.
Keshav Karki has been appointed in Sunsari, Amit Bahadur Gurung in Okhaldhunga, Santosh Moktang in Panchthar, Deuprakash Rai in Bhojpur, Dhiraj Khadka in Udayapur and Rajkumar Nepal in Tehrathum, informed Member Secretary Ghosh.
Due to the non-appointment of District Sports Development Committee chairpersons in all 14 districts of the province through the board, various sports activities that should have been carried out at the district level were affected. With only two weeks left for the end of the current fiscal year, the risk of freezing the budget allocated for various sports has increased. According to Member Secretary Ghosh, sports activities have been activated across the province by appointing chairpersons and vice-chairpersons in the vacant districts.
