Landslides and floods have caused extensive damage in Makalu Rural Municipality-1 of Sankhuwasabha with continuous rains. The flood that occurred on Tuesday night washed away a suspension bridge and damaged a wooden bridge, a water cistern, a school, and a cardamom garden, according to the police.

According to Ward Chairman Angbabu Sherpa, the house of Angtemba Sherpa of Mayum is in complete danger after a large landslide fell near the three-story house. Although no one is currently living in the house, about five ropanis of land nearby has been buried by the landslide. Similarly, the suspension bridge over the Isuwa River connecting Nurbuchaur and Nurbu villages has been washed away by the flood. Police Inspector Dhan Bahadur Rajbanshi of the District Police Office said that the flood in Nurbu Kholsi has also washed away four wooden bridges, including a public water cistern.

The landslide has blocked the approximately two-kilometer road leading to the Isuwa Hydropower dam site at various places. Two HRP pipes of the project were swept away by the landslide and about 200 meters of pipes were damaged.

About 10 ropanis of land belonging to Phurba Bangdhi Sherpa, 8 ropanis of land belonging to Kusang Dorchi Sherpa and 12 ropanis of land belonging to Angwabu Sherpa have been swept away by the landslide. Similarly, the cardamom fields of farmers including Ngima Tshiring Sherpa, Tenzing Nurbu Sherpa, Ngoduk Sherpa have also been extensively damaged. The landslide also destroyed the cardamom fields of Mayumka Bangdi Tshiring Sherpa, Ngajung Buti Sherpa, Ngima Thinduk Sherpa, Ngima Diki Sherpa, Angdawa Sherpa, Lakpa Renji Sherpa, Angnurbu Sherpa and Pema Tshiring Sherpa, according to the initial police report.

Meanwhile, about five meters of the compound wall of the Singheshwori Basic School in Mayum has collapsed, while the school's staff kitchen, made of stone and clay, has cracked.

The house of Sanu Sherpa of Nisar village is at risk after a landslide also collapsed from above the two-story house. Police have stated that there were no human casualties as the homeowner is currently living in Kathmandu.

Although there have been no reports of human casualties from the incident so far, there has been significant damage to physical structures, agricultural production and local infrastructure. Police have stated that work is underway to collect accurate details of the damage. A team led by Police Assistant Inspector Bhojraj Devkota of Police Post Makalu has reached the spot and is collecting details of the damage.
