The Armed Police Force has conducted training to prepare volunteers for community-level disaster response in four districts of Koshi Province.

Armed Police Force, Nepal No. 1 Barah Bahini Headquarters Pakali, Sunsari, in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law of the Koshi Province Government, has conducted training targeting municipal police and local citizens working at the local levels of Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari and Dhankuta.

According to the Bahini, 20/20 people from each location participated in the training conducted at two locations in the four districts. Accordingly, a total of 100 people have undergone the training.

Theoretical and practical exercises related to fire control, water-borne disaster management, first aid, CPR, rope rescue and search and rescue in collapsed structures were conducted in the training. After the training, the participants can be mobilized as volunteers in search and rescue during disasters, said SP Gyanmani Paudyal of the Armed Police Force Barah Bahini Pakali.

The program organized in Rangeli Municipality of Morang was inaugurated by Acting Mayor Bhuma Parajuli. The programs organized in Jhapa, Sunsari, and Dhankuta were inaugurated by Chief District Officers of the respective districts, Shivaram Gelal, Basudev Ghimire, and Ratnadevi Sharma.

At a program organized at the Armed Police Force Nepal No. 3 Battalion Headquarters in Morang, Indramani Parajuli, Minister for Internal Affairs and Law of Koshi Province, said that the training would be effective in building volunteer manpower who could immediately engage in search and rescue in the event of disasters that may occur in the province.

He expressed confidence that such training would help increase community participation in disaster risk reduction and management.
