The Khandbari-Kimathanka road section of the Koshi Highway has been completely blocked since Monday evening due to a landslide that occurred along with continuous rain.
The Sankhuwasabha District Police Office has stated that the road around Chhongrang has been blocked due to a landslide in the Syabung area of Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-3 under the North-South Koshi Road Project. The road has been blocked due to the road blockage.
According to Police Inspector Dhan Bahadur Rajbanshi of the District Police Office, a large amount of landslides have occurred from the upper region after incessant rains since last night. He said that the landslide has completely blocked the movement of vehicles on the road section.
Although coordination is being done between the North-South Koshi Road Office, local levels and concerned bodies to remove the landslide, the police have stated that it is difficult to immediately proceed with the work of opening the road due to the continuous rain and the risk of further landslides.
After the road was blocked, passengers coming from Bhotkhola to Khandbari and going from Khandbari to the northern region were stranded on the way. Transportation of daily necessities, commercial activities and essential services have also been affected.
