Police have allegedly raided the official residence of Koshi Province's Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Indramani Parajuli in Biratnagar on Thursday night.

A police team reached Minister Parajuli's quarters near the Law Campus in Biratnagar-3 around 11 pm. According to ministry sources, the police team entered the residence premises and searched every room. However, the District Police Office, Morang, has denied the allegation of a raid.

Minister Parajuli was on a visit to Sankhuwasabha at the time and said that he had no direct knowledge of the incident.

According to an employee working at the minister's residence, the police team that arrived at night stayed in the residence premises for some time and inspected various rooms. The team then returned.

Morang Police Chief SP Kabit Katuwal claimed that the police had not arrived there with the intention of raiding but on the basis of special information. He claimed that he had arrived there by mistake while searching for Bimal Bhattarai, the absconding accused of assault.

'We did not search the house. There was information that a person was hiding there. Based on that, the police went,' he said.  The incident has also taken a political turn. In the House of Representatives meeting on Friday, Dhankuta MP Rajendra Rai raised the issue of the police reaching the minister's residence and sought an answer from the government.

'Why did the police reach the minister's residence and search it while he was in Sankhuwasabha? On whose orders was it done? An answer should be given,' he said in Parliament.
