The Mid-Hill Highway was blocked after a flood swept away the road at Lapsekhola in Buwalung, Diktel Rupakot, Majhuwagadhi Municipality-8 on Wednesday night.
The flood, including a landslide that fell from above the road, has washed away about 50 meters of the road. Local teacher Dilip Rodung said that it is not even possible to cross the road at this time. Rodung said that it will take time for the road to reopen as the flood has reached the condition before the road was built.
‘The flood has washed away the road, there is no sign of the road, the condition is the same as it was before the road was built,’ Rodung said. ‘Even a breaker is not possible to open the cliff with rocks, if you fill it with gabion mesh and remove it from below, the road can be built, but it will take time.’
After the road was blocked, those going to Kathmandu from the eastern districts via the Mid-Hills are stranded, while those going to the east are also stopped on the way, according to the police. Technical teams from the Mid-Hill Highway and Road Department have reached the spot to reopen the road.
Local Krishna Bahadur Budhathoki said that police from Dobela and Nirmalidanda, as well as locals, are monitoring the situation from all sides. On Jestha 22, the road was also washed away by floods. The road was reopened the next day after the flood. The road has been blocked after the bridge under construction at the spot fell into disrepair.
