The National Independent Party (NISP) has elected new leaders in 10 districts of Koshi Province. The new district presidents were elected from the district convention held as part of the party's organizational expansion campaign. There was also controversy over the selection of leadership in some districts including Jhapa and Sunsari.
According to the NISP Province Office, Om Bhandari in Jhapa, Bharat Kandel in Morang, Sagar Dahal in Sunsari, Rajan Kumar Gurung in Taplejung, Suman Khatri in Tehrathum, Khyam Bahadur Bhujel in Bhojpur, Bhaktanarayan Shrestha in Sankhuwasabha, Krishna Bahadur Thapa in Okhaldhunga, Mukunda Krishna Thapa in Khotang and Narayan Kaji Karki in Solukhumbu have been elected as district presidents. So far, no Dalits or women have been elected to the district leadership level of Koshi.
With the selection of new leadership, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has stated that it has prioritized the expansion and strengthening of the organization from the local level to the district level. The party's organizational activities have become more active as leadership is being selected through conventions in various districts of Koshi Province, said Bhim Kunwar, Joint Secretary of the RSSSP Jhapa.
The RSSSP Koshi Province Convention is being held in Biratnagar on Jestha 28. There are 14 districts in Koshi Province.
