The road section connecting Chainpur Municipality and Panchkhapan Municipality in Sankhuwasabha has been completely blocked due to floods after continuous rains. The road was completely blocked after the Chiunkhuwa River flooded the Kalleri area at around 4 am on Saturday morning, causing major damage to the road.

According to locals, the sudden flood in the river washed away the road while the construction work was underway on the road to Chunkhurung via Thuyur, Bhainsichowk, and Pipaldanda under Panchkhapan Municipality. The road has been completely closed after a large landslide occurred on the Chunkhurung side due to the flood. Currently, no type of vehicle can operate on the road.

Local Rajesh Basnet said that the Kalleri area has been at risk for years and said that a long-term solution is needed. According to him, it is mandatory to make arrangements for prevention with strong structures in the area around at least 15 to 20 meters along the river.

Locals have also demanded that the concerned bodies adopt long-term conservation measures rather than temporary repairs. DSP Kumar Prasad Mainali of the District Police Office, Sankhuwasabha has informed that coordination is being done with the local level, Road Division Office and other concerned bodies to bring the road into operation.

He said that with the onset of monsoon, the risk of floods and landslides is increasing in various places in the district. Due to the adverse weather, the local administration has urged the general public to be vigilant around rivers and streams and not travel unnecessarily.
