The drinking water project in Khandbari area, which has been blocked for a long time, has been operational after reconstruction.
The project, run under the Khandbari Drinking Water Consumer and Sanitation Organization, has been reconstructed at a cost of Rs 64.756 million.
Out of the 42-kilometer pipeline stretching from Mangsima, the source of the project, to Khandbari, 20.5 kilometers of the line have been reconstructed. The project has come into operation with the start of water flow from the water treatment plant located in Kuwapani, Chichila Rural Municipality.
With the completion of the reconstruction, about 2,500 consumers of Khandbari Municipality are expected to receive regular, clean and safe drinking water service. Mayor Maheshwor Thapaliya said that the re-operation of the project is a matter of relief for the residents of Khandbari and that it will reduce the drinking water shortage that has been going on for years.
Under the project, the damaged main pipeline has been removed and new pipes have been installed, while the water treatment and distribution system has also been modernized and organized. He said that this will control water leakage and make the distribution system more effective.
According to Dibyraj Baral, Chairman of Khandbari Drinking Water Consumer and Sanitation Project, the goal of providing easy and regular drinking water service to consumers has been achieved with the completion of the reconstruction. He said that the organization will pay special attention to improving the quality of service and sustainable management in the coming days as well.
Earlier, the drinking water service was affected after the main pipeline laid during the road expansion and construction from Deurali in Chichila to Khandbari was completely damaged. After that, consumers had to face drinking water shortage for a long time.
The construction of the Mangsimam Drinking Water Project began in 2070 BS. After being extended five times, the project was completed in 2074 BS at a cost of 451.55 million rupees. As the project is back in operation at full capacity after the reconstruction, locals are hopeful that there will be long-term improvements in drinking water management in the Khandbari area.
Locals have also expressed confidence that daily life will become easier with the re-operation of the project. Baral said that this project will have a positive impact on improving public health, saving time, and improving the living standards of city residents, along with expanding access to clean drinking water.
