Bishal Rai of Phidim Municipality in Panchthar has won the Kanchenjunga Adventure Marathon competition. In the competition held on Sunday, he covered the prescribed 42 kilometers in 5 hours 30 minutes 8 seconds. Starting from Yamphudin at an altitude of 1700 meters, he had to reach 4200 meters and return to the same place. Bishal was given a tough challenge by Bibhishan Limbu of Sirijanga Rural Municipality-5 Pedad in Taplejud, who came second. He covered the prescribed distance in 5 hours 31 minutes 20 seconds. He was 1 minute 12 seconds behind the title winner Rai. Pratap Thamsohad of Panchthar came third. He covered the distance in 5 hours 41 minutes 33 seconds. There were 24 men participating in the competition held under the Sirijanga Tourism Festival 2083. The race started at 7:40 am on Sunday. Runners from various districts including Tribhuvan Army Club and Kathmandu, Bhojpur, Okhaldhunga, Panchthar, Tehthum participated in the competition. According to Amir Rai, who coordinated the competition, the winner received 116 tola silver-plated trophy and 1 lakh 8 thousand 586 rupees in cash. The second place received 58 thousand 586 rupees and the third place received 28 thousand 586 rupees. The marathon competition was organized on the closing day of the tourism festival that has been running since Jestha 15 with the support of Sirijanga Rural Municipality and other organizations. The festival was organized by Sinam United Sports and Cultural Club. According to Naresh Gurung, secretary of the club, 35 more volunteers were mobilized because the competition was held in the high mountainous area and at high altitude. He informed that the competition was conducted in the high Himalayan region with the management of Quick Rescue Team, ambulance, health workers, etc. .
The festival and marathon organized with the aim of promoting the world's third highest mountain, Kanchenjunga, started last year . This year's festival will conclude with a musical evening on Sunday with the participation of national and local artists .
