The flood and landslide that occurred in the Pakhuri River in Makalu Rural Municipality-5, Sankhuwasabha, caused major damage last night. The police said that the flood in the river after incessant rains swept away 218 sheep belonging to local Dal Bahadur Gurung who were grazing.

According to the District Police Office, Sankhuwasabha, 218 of Gurung's 250 sheep went missing in the flood and landslide that occurred around 2 am on Saturday night. So far, only 32 sheep have been found alive.

According to Sankhuwasabha Police Chief DSP Kumar Prasad Mainali, the search for the missing sheep is ongoing.
Police reached the scene of the incident as soon as they received information about the incident at the Num police station. DSP Mainali said that Jhalak Gurung, who had gone to look after the sheep, suffered minor injuries to his hands and feet. He said that it would take 10 hours to walk to the scene, which is about 40 kilometers from Num. Police have also urged locals to remain vigilant as the risk of floods and landslides in the hilly areas is increasing with the continuous rain.
