Nepal Spring Water Industry in Lachka, Triyuga Municipality-3, Udayapur has been sealed on charges of producing substandard processed drinking water that directly affects the health of consumers.
A joint team of the District Administration Office and the Food Technology and Quality Control Office, Udayapur sealed the industry on Tuesday after it was found that it was not following food hygiene and quality standards.
During the monitoring conducted after serious complaints were received from consumers about the quality of the water produced by the industry, it was found that the industry was operating in open violation of the Directive on the Production of Processed Drinking Water-2074 and the Food Hygiene and Quality Act-2081, said Nirajan Magar, Chief of the Food Technology and Quality Control Office, Udayapur.
According to him, the production process in the industry was not as per the standards, the necessary cleanliness and quality were not maintained, and the produced water could pose a risk to the health of consumers, so production and sale and distribution were stopped immediately. 'The industry will not be allowed to operate until the prescribed standards are met,' he said.
According to the monitoring team, the industry had been warned repeatedly before. Despite being instructed to improve the standards and fined, the industry operators have been found to be ignoring them. Assistant Chief District Officer Bikram Pandey said that the industry was finally forced to be sealed after being given ample opportunity to improve despite their failure.
The administration has stated that it will now strictly monitor the food and beverage industry, which is directly related to the health of consumers.
The administration has also warned that industries that produce substandard and non-standard products will be brought under the legal ambit. Local consumers have also demanded increased regular testing and monitoring of the quality of treated drinking water sold in the market.
