A large amount of gold worth about Rs 1.5 crore was seized from the eastern border checkpoint of Kakadbhitta on Monday evening. The Armed Police Force, Kakadbhitta and Mechi Customs have seized 570 grams of 24-carat 999.9 purity gold brought to Nepal from India. The market value of the seized gold is more than Rs 15.5 crore. The Armed Police Force has arrested 39-year-old Param Pathak, a resident of Kolkata, who was illegally importing gold. Similarly, 20,000 US dollars and 84,570 Indian rupees have been seized from him. The Nepali value of the seized dollars is about Rs 2 million 64,000. The police have also seized a driver's license, Aadhaar card, various bank and SIM cards, a mobile phone and checks from Pathak.

Armed Police Force Kakadbhitta DSP Bikash Thapa has informed that the seized goods and the arrested persons have been handed over to the concerned office for necessary investigation and action.
