A heart disease screening camp has been organized in various schools of Khandwari Municipality under the technical support of Nepal Heart Disease Prevention Foundation Lalitpur and the Heart Disease Branch Sankhuwasabha.
On Wednesday, about 5,500 students of six secondary schools under Khandwari Municipality 1, 3, 8 and 9 underwent heart screening, informed Saroj Kumar Bajracharya, Chairman of the Heart Disease Branch Sankhuwasabha.
According to him, the heart screening of students of Himalaya Secondary School, Bagishwari Secondary School, Adarsh Vidyamandir, Mahendra Secondary School, Adarsh Secondary School and Jalap Secondary School was conducted.
In the camp, an 18-member medical team led by cardiologist Dr. Prakash Regmi conducted a health check-up of the students. During the check-up, various aspects including the heart condition, heart rate, blood pressure and other factors were checked.
Chairman Bajracharya said that 30 of the students tested had serious heart problems. Preparations are underway to provide additional and necessary treatment to the students free of charge at the Shaheed Gangalal National Heart Center.
He said that the camp, which was conducted with the aim of providing timely access to health services to children in remote areas, was received positively by local parents, teachers and the community. 'Health check-ups at the school level have made it easier to identify diseases at an early stage,' he said, 'We will continue to conduct such free health camps in other schools and remote settlements of the district in the coming days.'
