The Chyamtang-Ghongappa road constructed by the Nepal Army in the remote Bhotkhola area of ​​Sankhuwasabha has been handed over. The road, which falls under the Khandbari-Kimathanka road section, was handed over to the North-South (Koshi) Road Project during a program on Monday.

This road, which was completed under the Development and Construction Directorate of the Nepal Army, has now been established as an important infrastructure directly linked to the daily lives of local citizens.

Project Chief Major General Samser Bahadur Singh, while handing over the road to the Chief of the North-South (Koshi) Road Project, Ram Bahadur Gurung, said that the army has successfully fulfilled its responsibility despite difficult geography, remote environment and technical challenges. According to him, after the decision of the Council of Ministers on Bhadra 22, 2076, the responsibility of constructing the road from Chyamtang to Ward No. 1 Ghongappa in Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-2 of Sankhuwasabha was given to the Nepal Army.

Although the initial target was to construct 14 kilometers of the road, the final survey showed that the total length of the road was 10.81 kilometers after the alignment was changed during the construction. He said, “Despite geographical remoteness, hard rocky terrain and difficulties, the Nepali Army has completed the national pride project on time.” He said, “A team of the Nepali Army reached Chyamtang by helicopter from Tumlingtar on 24 and 25 Magh 2077 and was deployed there.”

Then, on 2 Falgun, an additional team was mobilized in the Chhumsur area. The Army has stated that it started the work of opening the track from 24 Falgun 2077 and completed the construction on 30 Chaitra 2082.

According to Major Senani Singh, with the completion of the road construction, it is expected that there will be a significant change in the economic, social and commercial activities of the Bhotkhola area. ‘The local market will be activated, transport access will be expanded and this road will make a long-term contribution to the economic development of Koshi Province,’ he expressed confidence.

Khandbari Municipality Chief Mahesh Thapaliya said that the connection of the Kimathanka-Khandabari road network is a historic achievement for Koshi Province. He praised the Nepali Army for taking risks and constructing the road in a very difficult terrain. ‘Under normal circumstances, road construction was considered impossible,’ he said, ‘but the army has broken rocks and built a road there.’

Bhotkhola Rural Municipality-2 Ward Chairman Zippa Tenzing Bhote said that the lifestyle of the locals has started changing after the road came into operation. ‘Earlier, people had to walk every day to reach the district headquarters, but now they can easily travel by small vehicles,’ he said, ‘Great relief has been given to the locals in terms of roads, education, health, trade and emergency services.’

Ram Bahadur Gurud, head of the North-South (Koshi) Road Project, expressed his happiness at receiving the road completed by the Nepal Army. He said that it would be made operable in the long term through road upgrading and regular maintenance in the coming days.
