Vehicles worth crores of rupees belonging to various government offices in the district have been lying idle in the offices for a long time. These vehicles, which have fallen victim to the government's practice of not auctioning them on time, have been turned into junk.

Two vehicles and a dozen motorcycles are lying idle in the premises of the District Coordination Committee. The vehicles, which were purchased for people's representatives and employees, have been damaged and have been lying idle for a long time. The employees are turning into junk due to the tendency of not repairing old vehicles and using new ones.

Currently, a dozen motorcycles of various companies, including Japanese Mitsubishi Pajero and Hyundai vehicles, are lying idle in the premises of the District Coordination Committee. The Mitsubishi Jeep with the number 'S1J 268' was purchased by the then District Panchayat President Bhakta Bahadur Singh Thakuri in 2044 for 450,000 rupees. Although this vehicle, which was in operation until 2068 BS, was in a running condition during maintenance, former head of the District Coordination Committee Khadga Darnal had started using a Hyundai Terracan vehicle. 

After the Hyundai Terracan vehicle broke down, District Coordination Committee head Gaur Bahadur Bishwakarma now uses a Mahindra Bolero with the number Province 1-005 Jha 002 purchased from a customs auction.  The illegally imported jeep was sold at an auction by the customs.  Even the Hyundai, which has been unused since 2078 BS, has been kept like junk even though it was in a running condition during maintenance. 

According to Bishwakarma, head of the District Coordination Committee, the vehicles have been lying idle for a long time due to the cumbersome process of auctioning.  ‘Due to legal complications, state vehicles worth lakhs of rupees are in a state of being turned into scrap,’ he said, ‘The government needs to facilitate the auction process, otherwise it will have to provide budget for repairs.’

The Bolero of Hulas Mustang Max Company, which was used by the then head of the District Education Office, has been unused for a decade. After the state restructuring, the local level was given the right to education up to secondary level, and after that, the office was transformed into an Education Development and Coordination Unit. Half a dozen motorcycles, including the Bolero of Hulas Mustang, have been unused for a long time. Unit head Bhawani Kattel said that the vehicles were lying idle because the repair cost was high and the state did not pay for the repair.

The Isuzu Company’s pickup van has been unused in the premises of the District Hospital for a long time. Vehicles have been lying unused for a long time at the Division Forest Office, Gaighat, Gaighat Diktel Road Project, District Administration Office, District Court and District Police Office.

Vehicles used in drug trafficking, used in various criminal activities, stolen vehicles and vehicles involved in accidents have been piled up at the District Police Office. District Police Office Chief SP Rajan Chapagain said that many vehicles have become junk due to the compulsion to wait for the verdict of the case to be auctioned.

It has been found that most of the parked vehicles are rusty and important parts are stolen. Citizens have suspected serious negligence of the offices and collusion of the employees as parts used in other motorcycles or vehicles have been removed.

Vehicles of the Nepal Red Cross Society Udayapur are also in a junk state. More than half a dozen motorcycles, including an ambulance of the Mahindra company, are in a junk state. Former president of the Nepal Red Cross Society, Madan Raj Katuwal, said that half a dozen motorcycles, including a Scorpio with the registration number Bagmati Province 01-027 Cha 6735 of Mahendra Company, given to the Udayapur branch, are being misused.
