The principal of a school in Udayapur and the chairperson of the school management committee have been found to have taken a large sum of money while appointing teachers.

Devnarayan Chaudhary, the principal of Shiva Secondary School in Chaudandigadhi Municipality-5, Sundarpur, and the chairperson of the school management committee have been found to have taken a bribe of Rs 55,000 and a monthly salary of Rs 43,000, totaling Rs 98,000, while appointing teachers. It has been found that Santosh Kumar Shah of Rajgadh Rural Municipality-4, Saptari, was found to have taken a large sum of money while appointing science teachers under the Federal Teaching and Learning Grant Contract Quota at the secondary level.

Shah, who was appointed on Bhadra 2, 2081 with a monthly salary of Rs 43,689, initially paid Rs 55,000 to the chairperson of the school management committee Karki online and later deducted the one-month salary he was due. The school had published a notice regarding the call for applications for the appointment of secondary science teachers on Shrawan 17, 2081.

‘The school management committee chairman said that you are almost confirmed to be appointed but it will cost some money. I have made the payment online saying that if I get a job while unemployment is rampant, I will give this much,’ said teacher Shah.

Meanwhile, principal Devnarayan Chaudhary said that some amount was taken as exam expenses during the teacher selection process. ‘He was not forced to give it, he provided some money as expenses during the exam,’ he said. ‘He is not currently in the service of the school, he has resigned.’
