The administrative building under construction in Halesi Tuwachung Municipality has been demolished because of the use of substandard materials. The demolition was carried out by a team of municipal technicians, municipal police, and employees on Tuesday.
According to Halesi Tuwachung Municipality spokesperson Kamal Giri, the demolition was carried out because the bricks used in the building were substandard. The contract for the construction of the building was taken by Akash Nirman Sewa Sindhupalchowk. An agreement was signed on 13 Mangsir 2082 in partnership with the Ministry of Urban Development and the municipality to complete the work within 18 months with a budget of 58.7 million 18.130 rupees.
Giri said that the demolition was carried out by an inspection team including technicians during the monitoring of the work on the second floor of the building, which was found to be substandard, in the context of ensuring quality work with economic efficiency. ‘We are on a mission to provide quality work with economic efficiency,’ said Giri. ‘In this regard, the inspection team including technicians found the work to be of poor quality during the monitoring and demolished it.’ Som Thing, who is involved in the construction, admitted that some bricks were mixed in during the work. However, Thing complained about the sudden demolition because substandard bricks were used. ‘The work was done over the phone without going to the brick kiln, some substandard bricks were mixed in,’ said Thing. ‘The same substandard bricks were used during the work. If they had been asked to remove them, we would have removed them. They tried to make the place hopeless without giving them a chance to improve.’
