A team of people's representatives, employees and journalists from Triyuga Municipality has set out on a nine-day tour. A team of 26 people, including a municipal executive member, two employees and three journalists, have set out on a tour of western Nepal with a budget of 1 million rupees from the municipality.

The mayor of the municipality, Basant Basnet, said that the tour was set out on Friday morning for inter-municipal relations. According to him, the tour team will observe places including Surkhet, Kalikot, Rara.

The team including people's representatives and journalists set out on a tour using the municipality's budget is being heavily criticized on social media. The criticism is that the people's representatives are going out to travel by disrupting the service flow of the municipality and ward offices. The President of the National Independent Party, Triyuga Municipality, has written a status on social media and said that the people's representatives are going out for entertainment and sightseeing using the taxes paid by the people, mocking the public sentiment and doing injustice to the tax-paying people.

He has mentioned that the municipality spending the taxes paid by the people on fruitless work is a step that raises serious questions about the irresponsibility and accountability of the people's representatives. Some have raised questions about accountability, saying that the municipality has gone on a journey of people's representatives and employees when the teacher recruitment and the dispute arising from it have reached its peak. They have accused the municipality of spending its budget on unnecessary areas, saying that such visits, which have been held in the past, have not yielded any results.

Under the fiscal year 2082/83, Triyuga Municipality had allocated a budget of Rs. 650,000 under the title of Inter-municipal Monitoring Exchange and Visit Program of People's Representatives. However, on Poush 7, the 16th Municipal Assembly of the municipality revised the budget under that title to Rs. 1 million, said Chief Administrative Officer Kumar Koirala.

Mayor Basnet said that the visit was organized to fulfill the criteria of inter-municipal learning exchange and Local Level Institutional Capacity Self-Assessment (LISA). According to him, public representatives and employees have been making observation visits every year through the municipality's budget.
