The Phungling Municipality has given a 7-day ultimatum to remove the encroachments on the sidewalks in the market area. The municipality has asked to ensure that even the flower pots placed on the upper floors of the houses in the market area do not fall or to remove them.
Acting Chief Administrative Officer Prakash Poudal issued a notice and the municipal police went to every door to make such an order.
Instructions have also been given through local media to remove the businesses placed on the sidewalks. Municipality Mayor Amir Maden has warned that the municipal police will take control if anyone does not stop or forces them. ‘Our market is narrow, there is also a lot of traffic,’ said Mayor Maden, ‘Even in such a market, commercial materials are placed right up to the road. We will remove all of them.’
The 7-day ultimatum was given so that citizens do not complain that they did not receive the notice and that strict action will be taken from Monday, Maden said. The municipality has urged not to place any commercial items outside the shutters of shops. Instructions have also been given not to place any other items on the roadside.
