Two children have died after falling while swimming in the Sukekhola area of Makalu Rural Municipality-2, Sekedem.
At around 1 pm on Sunday, local Madan Rai's sons, 12-year-old Subash Rai, 4-year-old Ashish Rai, and 10-year-old Manisha Rai, were swimming in the river. During the incident, Ashish Rai slipped on a stone and while trying to save him, Subash Rai also fell and fell about 15 meters down.
As soon as local Arjun Rai informed the police about the incident, a team was deployed from the Makalu Police Station under the command of Police Sub-Inspector Devnarayan Majhi. Both the injured children were immediately taken to the Makalu Health Center, Seduwa for treatment, but their condition was critical.
Both the children were declared dead by the doctor on Sunday during treatment. A team led by Police Inspector Birendra Kumar Yadav was also mobilized from the Area Police Office, Hedangna for further investigation at the scene.
Police said they completed the legal process and sent the bodies of both deceased children to Khandbari District Hospital for postmortem on Monday.
