A bailey bridge has been put into operation at the Femekhola, which separates the borders of Phidim Municipality-1 and 11 in Panchthar under the Phidim-Yangnam-Prangbung-Phalut road. The bailey bridge has been in operation since Sunday morning.

The concrete bridge here was washed away by the flood of Asoj 12, 2081 (October 12, 2002) 19 months ago. After the flood washed away the bridge, traffic and transportation vehicles were being diverted here. However, traffic was affected when the diversion was washed away by floods repeatedly.

The Infrastructure Development Office under the Koshi Province Government, Panchthar, has constructed the bailey bridge here. The 50-meter-long bailey bridge was brought from the Kabeli River. The office has stated that Rs 13.982 million was spent on the construction of the bridge. The bridge was installed by SS Sungabha Construction Company through a contract agreement.

With the commissioning of the bailey bridge, local people expect that vehicle movement along the Phidim-Phalut road section will be easier. But technicians say that the risk of flooding remains high as the floods in the steep river in recent years have eroded a large area and created a depression.
